You were probably excited when your office shifted to remote work last year. There were so many advantages: You could roll out of bed two minutes before clocking in, still in your pajamas, or work in bed all day, snug under the covers.
Now you’ve seen that working from home isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It turns out “work from home” means you stare at a computer screen for nine hours at a time, in a distracting environment that isn’t meant to be a work space. It’s a stressful situation, and it can be tough to maintain focus and calm.
But there are things we can do to improve focus when working from home. Here are six ways to work remotely better. And yes, a lot of them involve CBD.
1. Use CBD to Relax and Focus When Working from Home
There are so many distractions at home: TV, pets, annoying roommates. It’s easy to get caught up in disturbances that draw your attention away from work.
If you struggle to focus while working from home, and you haven’t added CBD to your routine, now is a good time to give it a try. CBD can help you stay awake and focused. One study identified it as a “wake-promoting agent” that can increase alertness. If stress and anxiety are drawing your focus away from work — and who could blame you? — CBD can help there too, with its ability to “regulate anxiety-related behaviors.”
2. Get Better Sleep to Better Work from Home
Sleep matters for maintaining focus. That’s especially true when you’re working remotely and you need to fight distractions (See #1). If you’re tired, concentrating can feel like an impossible task. And with stress contributing to sleep issues, it’s easy to get into a spiral. That’s why maintaining a healthy sleep cycle is so important for focus when working from home.
If you need extra help getting a good night’s sleep, CBD can help. It improves the quality and duration of sleep and helps you keep a regular sleep cycle. The scientific literature backs that up.
3. Plan Scheduled Breaks (And Stick To Them)
Focus is finite and needs scheduled maintenance. Plan for small breaks throughout the day. This isn’t laziness; it’s smart conservation of energy. (We’ll talk about how CBD can help you focus below.)
Here’s an example: Take 1-minute every twenty minutes to stand up, move around, and look away from the computer screen. Add a 3-minute break every hour and a half. This simple practice mitigates eye strain and breaks up extended sedentary periods.
Research shows that scheduled breaks improve productivity and brain function. So, in the opposite sense, sitting in place for long periods of time makes people produce less and get dumber. Not ideal at all.
4. Exercise Improves The Work From Home Experience
Peer-reviewed studies backup what many people have already experienced — exercise improves brain function.
To focus better when working from home, try to exercise regularly. Take a walk through the neighborhood before work starts, or go for a leisurely bike ride after. It doesn’t have to be much — many studies have indicated that low-intensity aerobic exercise is the best way to improve productivity, although vigorous exercise has its own benefits.
5. Embrace What Works For You
Working remotely isn’t the same for everyone. Some people focus better with background noise like a TV running in the background. Some are more productive if they squeeze in a power nap during lunch. And some focus best when they lounge on the couch with a CBD pre-roll.
Don’t let how you think you should work get in the way of how you work best. As long as you’re staying focused and getting those TPS reports in on time, keep doing what you’re doing.SHOP CBD PRE-ROLLS
6. Don’t Work After Work is Over
When you work from home, it’s hard to draw a clear line between work and off-hours. When you punch out, do your best to get away from work. Unwind with a CBD tincture or gummy, or use that time to exercise. Just make sure you relax and recover; and resist the temptation to open emails and check-in with the office.
