CBD Tea Detoxes

Here’s the Problem with CBD Tea Detoxes for Weight Loss

You might’ve heard some bold promises lately from various companies pushing CBD tea detoxes. There are dozens of brands and Youtube channels advertising its power. Some versions are geared toward weight loss. Others are focused on “cleansing” your body of toxins. Don’t believe everything you read.

Here are the facts: CBD can help promote healthy responses to inflammation and stress, as well as support normal sleep/wake cycles. However, at the moment, there is not sufficient evidence to show that CBD tea or similar drinks are a reliable way to lose weight. From our perspective, any product advertised as such is playing fast and loose with the truth.

Why Are Companies Making Weight Loss Claims About CBD Tea Detoxes?

The CBD industry is quickly growing. Globally, the CBD oil market is expected to grow from $967.2 million in 2020 to $5.3 billion by 2025, according to a forecast from Cannabidiol (CBD) Oil: Global Markets. These are conservative numbers. It may be the sudden influx of money into the space that has incentivized an approach to marketing CBD as if it’s a cure for everything.

The vast majority of CBD companies are operating in good faith, but it only takes a select few to popularize a trend that’s wildly out of sync with both anecdotal and scientific evidence. CBD tea detoxes for weight loss is one of these trends.

Read the Fine Print

If you dig into the world of CBD tea detoxes, you’ll find a few different claims for its efficacy in terms of weight loss. They range from deceptive to false.

A common claim uses roundabout logic to say that because CBD can help a person manage stress or inflammation, they’ll be better able to take care of themselves, leading to weight loss. This isn’t what most people mean when they ask if CBD causes weight loss. It’s misleading, although maybe not technically false.

Other claims are more direct and come right to the edge of outright falsehood. If you see ads for a CBD tea that says it’ll boost your metabolism or suppress your appetite, stay away. There is neither sufficient data nor a critical mass of anecdotal reports to support these claims.

When it comes to spending your hard-earned money for actual results, trust companies that have been doing this for a long time and aren’t promising miracles.

You Should Not Use a CBD Tea Detox to Lose Weight.

CBD tea detoxes haven’t shown to be effective in helping you lose weight. And detoxes are also just a bad idea, period.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (part of the US Department of Health and Human Services) strongly recommends against liquid-only detoxes, saying, “Drinking large quantities of water and herbal tea and not eating any food for days in a row could lead to dangerous electrolyte imbalances.”

We know that many of our customers, friends, and family have been let down by the healthcare system. In this case, we really don’t see a conflict of interest or reason to doubt the HHS’s guidance. We need a regular, balanced diet to power our bodies. That’s what’s natural, not fasting.

There is Some Research that Ties CBD to Weight Loss, But Not Enough

Several companies have cited a 2012 study which showed that CBD inhibited appetites in rats. Rat studies are necessary and matter, but they’re just the beginning of the conversation.

Future studies may well someday show that CBD inhibits appetites in humans (and we’d love it if they do!) or leads to weight loss in some other way. But until that point, it’s not entirely responsible to make such claims.

In fact, the data on CBD, rats, and appetite is contradictory. One study showed that cannabinoids are an appetite stimulant in rats.

CBD Is Already Incredible, So Keep It Simple

As mentioned, CBD can help support normal inflammatory responses, ease stress and promote a healthy sleep cycle.

There’s no use getting complicated with CBD. Start off with CBD Capsules or CBD Oil Tinctures. Stick to a serving schedule for at least two weeks, then see how you feel and adjust your servings accordingly.

But skip the CBD tea detox. It’s the opposite of a balanced, holistic approach to health and wellness. Trust us, we’ve been at this for a while!
