Will I Test Positive for THC?

If you consume any form of cannabinoids, it is possible, though unlikely, that you could fail a drug test (otherwise known as a Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST)).

Testing positive for THC? That’s far less likely.

Let’s talk about how positive tests happen and why Green Lotus Hemp products are the best choice for any consumer facing a potential drug screening.

Did you purchase your CBD product from a company that tests with a state-certified, Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) lab? Does the company offer a Certificate of Analysis for their products? (We do.)

Contaminated or mislabeled products account for the overwhelming majority of failed drug tests resulting from the ingestion of hemp-derived products.

Many companies cut corners when it comes to quality control, and as a result, their products are littered with prohibited levels of THC and other contaminants. Do your research before buying!

Do drug tests check for CBD, or just THC?

Just like industrial hemp, high-THC marijuana contains non-psychoactive  cannabinoids like CBD. Certain tests are designed according to a rationale that, because CBD (and other cannabinoids) are found in marijuana, the presence of CBD is a sign that the test subject has consumed marijuana. CBD, using a technical term, is a “chemical marker” — a legal substance that suggests the presence of an illegal substance.

But not to fear! The vast majority of tests look for the presence of THC, exclusively. If given a drug screening that tests for THC concentration, it is extremely unlikely (if you follow our on-label instructions) that you will test positive for THC and fail the test.

Consistently test at .01% THC, which is 30x lower than the limit (0.3%).

Why? Because Green Lotus Hemp uses CGMP, state-certified labs and third party testing. Our products that utilize full spectrum hemp oil consistently test at .01% THC, which is 30x lower than the limit (0.3%) established by the 2018 Farm Bill.

What about false-positives?

Yes, CBD users are susceptible to false-positives. But typically, false-positives are triggered as a result of consuming enormous amounts of cannabinoids, with 1000mg/day as just a starting point.

What would it take to get 1000mg of cannabinoids in your system? Quaffing an entire bottle of Green Lotus Hemp’s 1500mg Oral Tincture might do the trick! Do not do this. (Not that it would hurt you.) CBD is well-tolerated, even at high dosages. In fact, multiple clinical trials have used one-time, acute doses of 600mg. But remember our endocannabinoid system is a regulatory system. We don’t want to feed it too much. Less is often more.

So, follow the instructions! For our 1500mg tincture, we recommend taking one (1ml) under the tongue, once in the morning and once at night. This amounts to a comparably minuscule 100mg per day, and that’s for our most highly-concentrated tincture! Stick to our recommended dosages and you’ll significantly reduce the risk of getting a false-positive.

Find out which drug test you’ll be taking. Speak with your employer.

No matter the conditions, there is always a risk of failing a drug test. Before you take a drug test, check up on the type of drug test your prospective employer uses. For federal employees, drug testing must follow standardized procedures established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). In SAMHSA-approved labs, urine tests look for both cannabinoids and THC.

The average employer, on the other hand, is unlikely to use such a comprehensive test. If you have any doubts, consider speaking with your employer. Explain to them why you may end up testing positive and how you benefit from non-psychoactive cannabinoids.

Judging by the increasing acceptance of hemp-derived products and CBD as therapeutic remedies, it shouldn’t take long for drug testing services to adapt to the reality that non-psychoactive cannabinoids are widely socially acceptable, and soon to be protected by law.
